Mississippi Celebrates Architecture
Mississippi Celebrates Architecture is a National Award Winning annual program of events presented by AIA Mississippi. It celebrates our architectural heritage and creativity and provokes us to consider the future. The program, which consists of a Design Awards Celebration, a Public Outreach & Exhibition, and an Educational Symposium, promotes and celebrates the role of architecture in Mississippi’s culture.
Design Awards Celebration
October 13, 2016 (JACKSON, MS) AIA Mississippi the 2016 Design Awards Celebration to honor recipients of the Design Excellence Awards and Community and Membership Awards. This year’s event was held at the Mississippi Museum of Art (Jackson, MS).
The AIA Mississippi Design Awards program encourages design excellence and elevates the quality of architecture by recognizing and honoring works of distinction by its members and bring to public attention outstanding examples of architecture and design. The awards presented this year were reviewed and selected by Robert Macleod, AIA, Professor/ Director of the University of South Florida college of Architecture and Community Design, and a jury of prominent architects and educators.
Design Excellence Awards as well as Community & Membership Awards were presented:
Honor Award: Grammy Museum MISSISSIPPI; Awarded to: Eley Barkley, (Cleveland, MS.) + Dale Partners Architects, (Jackson, MS.), a joint venture. Owners, Cleveland Music Foundation.
Honor Award: Belhaven Pool House; Awarded to Duvall Decker Architects, (Jackson, MS.) Owners; Mark and Rebecca Wiggs.
Merit Award: The Mill at MSU; Awarded to Dale Partners Architects, (Jackson, MS.) Owner; Castle Properties.
Merit Award: MSU Golf Course Shelters; Awarded to Hans Herrmann, AIA, and Emily McGlohm, AIA, (Mississippi State University) Owner: Mississippi State University.
Merit Award: Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services; Awarded to Burris-Wagnon Architects, (Jackson, MS.) Owner: State of Mississippi.
Citation Award: UMMC Center for Telehealth – Venya Technology Campus; Awarded to Duvall Decker Architects, (Jackson, MS.) Owner: Venya Solutions, LLC.
Friend of Architecture Award — Mr. Joe Blake – Executive Director, AIA Mississippi
